The story behind supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society…

At AEGIS Financial, we seek out our clients and our employees to find organizations that they’re passionate about.  This quarter, Tyler Streber, Client Service Intern, and Kristie Hennes, Executive Director of Operations & Client Experience, asked if we would be willing to sponsor the “Light the Night Walk for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society” because both of these employees have been impacted by Leukemia. This is an event that is extremely moving to participate in with the lighted lanterns at night.  Those walking have a different color lantern based on the following: if they are fighting the disease, walking in honor of someone fighting the disease, beat the disease, or have lost someone to the disease.

We will be walking in memory of Tyler’s best friend, Jared Fredrickson, who was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 5. Tyler and Jared grew close through their passion of sports and video games. The two were teammates on the same youth baseball team, from which Tyler can remember Jared getting several hits while also playing with a cast on his arm due to a broken wrist. While Jared went through treatment, it was not uncommon to find the two of them together playing Madden for several hours on the PlayStation or watching movies. Jared fought Leukemia hard for several years, even going into remission for a period of time. Unfortunately, Jared’s Leukemia had returned and not soon after he passed away at the age of 9. This had a significant impact on Tyler.

Also, we will be walking in honor of Kristie’s Mother, Karen Olver, who was diagnosed in 2000 at the age of 50 with a rare blood disease that evolved into Leukemia which requires her to be on a low dose of oral chemo for the rest of her life which appears to have caused significant damage to many of her other organs now and causing many other health issues.  Please keep Karen in your prayers.

Tyler, Kristie, the team and their families hope you can join us by walking with us or donating to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to make bigger strides with these type of cancers.
